Spring is in the air and with the change of the seasons, come the perfect time to detoxify and reset. While there are a host of detox methods out there (kits, pills, diets, water cleanses...and so on) some of these methods are extremely labour intensive or unrealistic depending upon our circumstance. This is why I love to add small, achievable actions to daily life, that add up to increased wellness.
Cumin, Coriander & Fennel tea is an Ayurvedic remedy often used during spring time to burn up excess moisture. A diuretic, this simple drink detoxifies the body, cleanses the blood & urinary tract, gives metabolism & agni (internal fire) a boost and reduces water weight. Also known to soothe inflammation & aid digestion, you'll want to try this mild yet delicious drink for yourself.
With a quick trip to your spice cabinet or local grocer, measure out the 3 ingredients in seed form (not powder) into equal portions. Use about 1 teaspoon per cup of water and boil of steep for 4-5 minutes. You can enjoy a fresh cup with each meal or throughout the day however avoid drinking 2-3 hours before bed so that sleep is not interrupted by the urge to urinate. Try to enjoy this practice for at least 2 weeks and see how you feel.
*Lazy Laura's tip: Premix a batch in a mason jar so you don't have to make it from scratch each time. On the run? Take a mini jar and your favourite steeper or disposable tea bags in your bag.
